Application

Prior to any application of sandstone sealer it is important to prepare the sandstone properly prior to sealing (see page on preparation)

If you have pressure cleaned your sandstone, please ensure the sandstone surface and jointing sand are completely dry beforehand and also totally free of any surface dirt or grime. It may be necessary to leave the sandstone as long as 5-7days after pressure cleaning so the sandstone is completely dry.

  1. Please try to ensure that Smartseal Indian Sandstone Sealer is only applied when there is no likelyhood of rain within over the the next 8-10 hours.
  2. Do not apply the sandstone sealer in temperatures above 30o C or below 8o C.
  3. The sandstone should be thoroughly swept and if the joints are sand filled, please ensure any sand is not left on the surface and remains between the joints of the pavers.
  4. Smartseal sandstone sealer can be applied by roller, brush or preferably a sprayer.
  5. Application rates will range from 6-8m²per litre depending on the porosity of the sandstone being sealed. If the sandstone pavers are laid with sand filled joints you may need to use more sandstone sealer (possibly as low as 2-3m² per litre).
  6. To ensure the finish is smooth in appearance, avoid walking on the sealed sandstone for 4 hours after application. Keep motor vehicles off the sandtsone for 24 hours after sealing
  7. For compliance with all health and safety regulations, always wear protective gloves, goggles and a vapour mask if working in confined areas. See MSDS for sandstone sealer at www.smartseal.co.uk
  8. Use cleaning fluid to clean any tools of uncured sealant
